Description:
Early recognition of a disease is a crucial aspect of oral pathology, and the appropriate management of a disease is just as important. Some practitioners choose to monitor the entity while others choose to biopsy it before treating; such decisions are not standardized. The main goal of this course is to sort through and explicate criteria that can be used as a standard of care for each of the common oral diseases. The course is designed to specifically address the question of what standard of care should be adopted for each oral disease category, including: red and white lesions; gingival swellings, as well as swellings in other sites; pigmented lesions; generalized ulcerative lesions; and bone diseases. This course is useful for general dentists, dental hygienists and dental specialists. Reasonable criteria for choosing the appropriate time to biopsy and when and how often to place a patient on recall visits will be offered. This course will help the practitioner optimize patient care and minimize the chance of mishandling an oral disease.
