Dental assistants operating dental radiographic equipment are required to successfully complete a course in dental radiography that is substantially equivalent to courses taught in programs approved by the Michigan Board of Dentistry. We feel this course meets the Board's requirements. This hands-on course uses mannequins to help you learn radiographic techniques. However, inexperienced dental assistants will need additional practice under the guidance of their employing dentist to acquire clinical competency. This course covers other subjects: radiation physics, biology, and safety; image formation; films, processing, quality assurance, and infection control; radiographic anatomy and film mounting; intraoral techniques, including posterior bitewings, periapicals, and occlusals; extraoral techniques, including panoramic radiography; and digital imaging.
