Dates:
November 4 - 7, 2009
Reasons to join this course:
This four day program will lead the participant to expand their knowledge of the masticatory organ. The subjects: comprehensive dentistry, diagnosis and treatment planning, the interdisciplinary approach, occlusion and function, and the development of cranio-mandibular disorders will be intensely discussed.
The research of Professor Slavicek shows impressively the relationship between findings, symptoms and their underlying cause. To meet a student and companion of the icons of dentistry like Stuart, Payne, Lundeen, Lee and others, is a rare opportunity. Professor Slavicek developed their ideas and combined them with his incomparable experience in restorative dentistry into a modern concept for todays comprehensive dentistry.
The benefits for you:
Get a clear understanding of the masticatory organ
Understand, how the different aspects function together and influence each other
Understand the process from functional diagnostics and initial splint therapy, through orthodontics, periodontology, and implantology to the prosthetic solution
Grow with the Leading Academy. IDEA.
Based on the evolution of the human being and the masticatory organ as well as the development of the chewing system during growth, Prof. Slavicek explains the importance of understanding the functions, and dynamics of the masticatory system. This understanding brings the bits and bites together into a complete picture.
Learn, explore, and take out of this course:
Contrary to other concepts, which use esthetic alignment of the front teeth, statistics of tooth measurement or neuromuscular positions as the basis to set up cases, the Salvicek concept concentrates on skeletal relations and the importance of the occlusal plane and puts these in the foreground for diagnosis and treatment planning. Skeletal relations and the position and morphology of single teeth predict inevitably the clear goal for the later occlusal and wax up concept; as well as implant position.
The position of every single tooth in the mouth can be explained through:
Evolution of the masticatory organ
Function between the opposing jaws
Occlusal plane, vertical dimension, jaw angle, and the curves of Spee and Wilson
The number and form of the roots
Participants will learn:
The latest research of bruxism
Which patient needs which diagnostic effort
Implant positions
Posterior support In the area of complex cases and implant prosthetics the subjects of occlusal concept and wax up technique will be discussed from different perspectives.
The key points of this course:
Introduction: Evolution and phylogenesis to homo sapiens; ontogenesis, the individual way in growth and development; the masticatory organ a cybernetic system
History of Concepts: occlusal concepts in the history of dentistry in Europe and the US. Traditional gnathology versus modern gnathology
Structures of the Masticatory Organ: TMJ or craniomandibular system (CMS); neuromuscular system (NMS); occlusion and articulation
Functions of the masticatory organ: mastication, speech (respiration), posture, esthetic, and parafunction
Procedures of diagnostics: The importance of medical and dental history, current status, and chief complaint; Clinical examination; instrumental analysis; clinical analysis with the aid of electronic condylography
Lateral and frontal cephalometrics: Skeletal diagnosis, compensation mechanisms, vertical evaluation, dental evaluation, occlusal plane in diagnosis and treatment, functional evaluation, asymmetries
Additional diagnostics: Imaging techniques, medical consultations, ancillary medical therapy, alternative medicine
Treatment of craniomandibular disorders (CMD)
Bruxing and clenching - function or parafunction?
The team approach in therapy: restorative, periodontal, orthodontic, implantology, maxillo-facial surgery, the dental technician, and additional members of the team
Case presentations
