Course Objectives:

The objective of this course is to present new studies and guidelines to enable the restorative dentist to better understand the etiology of tooth wear and fracture, abfractive cervical lesions, and why esthetic guidelines are important to the success of all esthetic restorations. The importance of the triad of masticatory function, a stable occlusion and vertical dimension will be presented as problem patient cases.

Participant Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course you should be able to:


  • Apply the new guidelines to functional and dysfunctional wear problems

  • Determine the proper anterior tooth length and position in worn incisors

  • Determine how sustained occlusal forces affect masticatory function.

  • Determine if the vertical dimension can be altered and how to achieve it

  • Understand esthetic guidelines used by plastic surgeons and maxillo-facial surgeons


Other Features:

  • Case management protocols will be presented and participants will work with patient histories, X-rays, mounted study casts and imaging records

  • Participants will apply outcome-driven treatment plans and discuss treatment options using interdisciplinary guidelines

  • Participants are welcome to bring their own patient cases for discussion
