Patients today are increasingly aware of dental implants as a replacement for missing teeth. The art and science of implant dentistry has evolved rapidly over the last years. New treatment options that were not readily available in the past can be offered to our patients today. Tooth replacement with dental implants present unique challenges for the clinician. Yet, achievement can be most rewarding. The prerequisites for achieving a successful outcome include: Knowledge of the biology of the implant-prosthesis interface; Careful preoperative treatment planning; Surgical and prosthetic techniques; Prevention of peri-implant infection; Maintenance care. The course will discuss diagnosis and treatment planning of different clinical situations where an implant supported construction is a valid alternative. A variety of treatment options will be introduced, especially presented from the dental hygienist’s viewpoint.
