Description:
This two-part lecture will focus on some very important issues regarding the treatment of
today's pediatric patients. In the morning segment of the program, Dr. Johnson will present
medical emergencies in the pediatric practice. The good news is that children rarely have
truly life-threatening medical emergencies while undergoing dental care. However, when
they have a crisis, the outcome can move more quickly and be more severe than in their
adult counterparts.
The common medical issues that may occur during a medical crisis in your office.
How to recognize that a child may be at risk for medical emergencies.
What questions to ask in order to gather information quickly and accurately.
How to guide your therapeutic care to avoid emergencies.
Office-level interventions (i.e., pre-911) including both pharmacologic and non-
pharmacologic means of keeping the child stable until help arrives
Medication and therapy approaches to minimizing problems in Asthma and Diabetes Mellitus
What questions to ask and the decisions to consider when treating a child with one of these diseases.
