Description:
Small-diameter implants (up to 3mm) are rapidly making a major impact on the profession. They provide simple, fast, easy, non-invasive, relatively inexpensive retention and support for fixed and removable restorations. These small-diameter implants are within the clinical ability range of any surgically oriented dentist who will take the time to become familiar with the simple, logical techniques. Small-diameter implants are among the most significant innovations since the introduction of root-form implants several decades ago.
This two-day course is designed to provide adequate education for surgically oriented and experienced dentists to diagnose, treatment plan, and place small-diameter implants for healthy patients who have adequate bone. The course emphasizes treatment comparisons among conventional therapy, standard-diameter implant therapy, and small-diameter implant therapy for removable complete dentures, removable partial dentures, augmentation of tooth-borne fixed partial dentures, and as total support of selected fixed partial dentures.

- Describe the various types of bone in the oral cavity
- Describe needed radiographs for implants
- Compare clinical techniques for conventional-diameter implants with SDI
- Describe the quantity of bone needed for conventional root-form implants (>3mm in diameter)
- List and compare implant companies
- Describe the clinical procedure for placement of conventional-diameter implants
- Describe the clinical procedure for placement of SDI
- Discuss use of SDI for complete and partial dentures, fixed-partial dentures and as single tooth abutments
- Place SDI
