Description:

Course Format:

This is a comprehensive clinical orthodontic course with direct patient contact. You will be treating patients in a clinical setting. Classes will meet one weekend approximately every two months for a total of 12 sessions. In addition to treating patients, participants will develop a digital library by taking intra-oral photographs of hands-on patients and giving case presentations to the class during the Friday seminar session. There also will be time to go over case records brought from each participant's own practice. Along with diagnosis and technique, the Friday seminar also will include the following lecture topics:

  • Etiology
  • Growth and development
  • Interceptive treatment
  • Surgical orthodontics
  • Palatal expansion
  • Impactions
  • Limited cases
  • Compromised cases
  • Facial esthetics
  • Practice and risk management
  • Treatment planning
  • Space maintenance
  • Tongue thrust
  • Early treatment
  • Air Rotor Stripping
  • TMD
  • Skeletal open bites
  • Retention

Technique Advantages:

The Differential Straight-Arch Technique (or the Tip-Edge System) is a comprehensive, fixed orthodontic appliance that facilitates learning because it is divided into three stages of treatment. An article on the technique will be sent upon request. The technique has the following advantages:

  • It reduces the need for functional appliances, headgear, or any distalizing mechanics.
  • It reduces the need for orthognathic surgery.
  • Anterior deep bites can be opened without the need for bite planes.
  • Teeth can be easily moved without anchorage strain.

The Comprehensive Clinical Course offers advantages not found in other orthodontic courses:

  • It is truly a hands-on experience.
  • Patients are provided for each participant.
  • There is ongoing support and case consultation with the instructor throughout the program and 1 year of monitoring privileges upon completion of the course, with current Academy membership.
  • It is an invaluable source of CDE hours at a reasonable cost.

  • Course Objectives:

  • To facilitate your professional growth by providing an environment in which you will learn by active participation.
  • To enable you to more comprehensively service those who come to you for dental care.
  • To help you become knowledgeable and confident in using the Differential Straight-Arch Technique.

  • Is This Course for You?

This course is intended for dentists who have little or no experience in orthodontics and want to learn to incorporate it into their practices or progress from removable appliances to a comprehensive, fixed technique. The 12-session course is a comprehensive program, not a "short weekend" program of listening and writing. This is a one-of-a-kind, hands-on course - an extended experience requiring a commitment of time and energy.
