This four day Advanced Dental Hygiene Clinical Techniques Workshop is a comprehensive hands-on update on the latest, cutting edge clinical techniques. Conceived and conducted by renowned members of the USC Faculty, this unique series of courses will provide close individualized instruction in advanced hand instrumentation, CAMBRA essentials (caries risk assessment and remineralization), advanced ultrasonic instrumentation, periodontal endoscopy, and advanced local anesthesia techniques. This Workshop has never been offered at USC or any other school in the country.

An ideal in-depth experience for development of dental hygiene faculty members as well as private practitioners, this workshop will be the best post-graduate clinical continuing education program ever offered for dental hygienists. Advanced Periodonal Instrumentation - Lecture

This program for dentists and dental hygienists provides detailed and up-to-date information on new instruments and techniques that will enhance your ability to recognize and treat patients with moderate to advanced periodontitis. The format includes lecture, videotape and slide presentations on the following topics:

Rationale for root debridement: what are the latest concepts?

The influence of the periodontal endoscope on instrumentation.

Videotape comparing hand and ultrasonic instrumentation.

Use of Gracey 15/16, Gracey 17/18, Extra Rigid Graceys, After Fives™ and Mini Fives™, Micro Mini Fives™, Gracey Curvettes, universal curets, new sickles, files,diamond coated files, furcation curets, implant instruments and other new periodontal instruments.
Comparison of magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonic units and tip designs.

Common clinical problems with instrumentation

Innovative extraoral, reinforced, cross arch and opposite arch fulcrums and positions.

Specific techniques for furcations, line angles, and deep narrow pockets.

Antimicrobial irrigation and local delivery antibiotics.

UPON COMPLETION YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:


Identify the objectives of periodontal debridement.

Describe the characteristics of the dental endoscope.

Recognize the design, indications and sequence for use of universal curets, Gracey curets, mini-bladed Gracey curets, furcation curets and diamond coated instruments.

Describe the differences between magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonic devices.

Describe at least two of the newest types of ultrasonic tips.

Recognize the indications for extraoral or opposite arch fulcrums.

Describe the characteristics of various local delivery antimicrobials and antibiotics.
