Dental CE Course: Autism Spectrum Disorders

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are a very common and often misunderstood syndrome. Today, 1 in 166 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. This course will examine ASD as well as its impact on the dental profession.

Course Description
After completing this course, the clinician will be able to:
1) Describe the symptoms and traits of the five different Autism Spectrum Disorders.
2) Discuss the most common communication, social, and behavioral problems associated with ASD.
3) Discuss the treatment modalities used to assist people with ASD.
4) Discuss the current controversies about ASD (causes and treatments).
5) Describe methods for successfully treating people with ASD in the dental office.
