CEREC vs. E4D The Battle of the CAD/CAM Titans When CAD/CAM dentistry first appeared on the horizon over 20 years ago there were problems with the technique that kept it out of most offices. Today there have been many advances that simplify the systems and make it a viable option for almost all dental practices. Who wouldn’t want to provide a quality, well fitting long lasting, beautiful restorations for their patients and, in only one visit? Today a chair side CAD/CAM Milling machine can produce a wide variety of restorations for many clinical situations including inlays, onlays, full coverage and veneers. The new systems can provide full arch digital impressions without the expense and cleanup of impression materials. Advances in 3D computer modeling the design have simplified the learning curve between acquisition of a unit and cementing that first quadrant of dentistry. This program consists of 2 parts. The morning lecture session will acquaint the prospective CAD/CAM user with each specific unit features. The range of chair side applications in anterior and posterior esthetic ceramic restoration from prep design, soft tissue management, optical impression, material selection designing and milling to final cementation of the restoration will be covered. Segments on long term research and clinical results, reasons for failures and financial considerations in joining the CAD/CAM revolution are included. The afternoon session ( fee Involved) will be for non-CAD/CAM users that are investigating their options in the new technologies available. This course will allow doctors to closely work with each machine and follow the process from prep design to material selection, to designing and milling a ceramic restoration. Characterization and color modification will also be demonstrated
