Dentistry has come of new age in the last few years with the advent of cone beam 3D imaging. By providing an accurate representation of structures in the maxillofacial region, CBCT has found applications in implant treatment planning, endodontics, orthodontic evaluation, TMJ assessment, third molar extraction, orthognathic surgeries, sleep apnea studies, pathology evaluation, and other oral and maxillofacial diagnoses. This course will familiarize the attendee with the fundamentals and applications of this technological advancement with specific cases that highlight the use of 3D imaging. An overview of principles of image formation, sensor types, different fields of view, dosage with a brief course on reading and interpreting 3D images will be presented.
