The participants will be able to:
Utilize facial growth and develop data to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Recognize whether to use fixed, functional or combination therapy
Recognize airway, tongue thrust and TMJ problems and how corrective treatment can be used to enhance the overall treatment plan.
OBJECTIVE:
An overview of facial growth and development will be presented as a basis of diagnosis for orthopedic/ orthodontic treatment. A cephalometric review will be covered to facilitate the diagnostic thought process for differentiation between functional, fixed, or combination therapy. A review of functional appliances therapy, with application and adjustment problems will be coordinated with a variety of cases as examples to treatment needs. Minimal bracketed cases as well as full bracketed cases will be presented in both examples of theory application. Additional problems in diagnosis of airway, tongue thrust, impacted cuspids, and TMJ will be correlated with corrective treatments.
