Dental CE Course: Learning Styles and Pedagogical Principles

Teaching Principles for Healthcare Professionals is an online pedagogy course focused on teaching adults that is suitable for new and experienced full- and part-time faculty. The course consists of three sections that are each three weeks in length. Sections include: 1) Learning Styles and Pedagogical Principles, 2) Applied Pedagogy and Unit Design, and 3) Instructional Design Strategies. Each section is designed in a module series with one module to be completed each week. Participants can take one section, two sections, or all three sections of the course. Sections do not need to be taken in any particular order so one can take advantage of the many scheduling options. Participants will earn 12 CEUs for completion of each course section (40 CEUs if taking all three sections, including the Cultural Awareness Module).
In addition, all participants will complete a module on Cultural Awareness (additional 4 CEUS at no extra charge). If taking more than one section, the Cultural Awareness module is completed only once.
Learning Styles and Pedagogical Principles covers learning styles as they apply to course design and pedagogical principles.
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
Discuss the concepts of constructivist theory of education to teaching adults
Reflect on teaching from the perspective of other teachers and faculty
Discuss the influence of quantum thinking and learning to teaching adults
Recognize their own learning style and apply all learning style needs to instructional design
Demonstrate the role of cultural diversity in teaching (required in only one of the three session offerings) 12 CEUs each session, plus 4 CEUs for the Cultural Awareness Module for a total of 16 CEUs (online).
