Understanding the dental gingival complex is critical for predictable management of the soft tissue. Discover why some anterior crown margins become exposed while others stay stable for years. Clinical systems will be described which include: determining the cervical limitations for tooth preparation, ridge management, minimizing surgical defects following tooth extraction, surgical alteration exposing sound tooth structure, managing violations of biologic width, and esthetically managing gingival levels. A participatory component, instructed by Dr. Elizabeth Bakeman, will familiarize attendees with surgical instrumentation and various surgical approaches.
Course Objectives:
-Understand anatomic considerations critical to manage the dentogingival complex
-Understand cervical limitations of functional tooth preparation
-Enhancing pontic site development – surgical and restorative guidelines
-Determine acceptable compromises
-Understand surgical and orthodontic concerns
-Learn to coordinate therapy as it relates to the restorative periodontal interface
This course provides 27 continuing education credit hours and includes lecture, participation, demonstration, case presentation and discussion.
John C. Kois, DMD, MSD - Received his D.M. D. from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine and Certificate in Periodontal Prosthodontics with a M.S.D. degree from the University of Washington, School of Dentistry. He maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics in Tacoma and Seattle and is an Affiliate Professor in the Graduate Restorative Program at the University of Washington. Dr. Kois continues to lecture nationally and internationally, is a reviewer for many journals and is the Editor in Chief for The Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry. Dr. Kois is the recipient of the 2002 Saul Schluger Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence in Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from both the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is the past President of both the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and a member of numerous other professional organizations. In addition, he continues to work with restorative dentists at the Kois Center, a didactic and clinical teaching program.
