Life expectancy in 1900 was 49 years, while a child born today can expect to live until age 77. As a result of longer life spans, more geriatric patients are seeking dental care. They often present with multiple medical problems that complicate treatment. Given the number of baby boomers rapidly approaching their geriatric years, successful management of medically compromised patients will be increasingly important in the future.
