Dental CE Course: Use of Local and Systemic Antimicrobials as Adjuncts in the Management of Periodontal Diseases

Periodontal diseases are multi-factorial bacteria induced diseases that generally respond well to improved good oral hygiene and mechanical removal of plaque, calculus and local contributory factors such as overhanging restorations. However, some cases do not respond favorably to routine mechanical methods. This course is designed to provide an update of current information regarding the use of Systemic and Local Antibiotics as adjuncts to mechanical therapy in the management of periodontal diseases.
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
List the common antimicrobial agents used in the adjunctive management of periodontal disease
Explain the rationale and guidelines for the use of local and systemic antimicrobials in periodontal therapy
Describe the use of adjunctive systemic antibiotics in the management of periodontal diseases
Describe the use of locally administered antimicrobial agents in the management of periodontal diseases
